If you’re looking for a book to give you perspective and inspiration during the endless COVID-19 pandemic, look no further. This small book, Two Old Women, will do it all. The tale of two Indigenous elders living in the Arctic Circle who get abandoned by their tribe offers many life lessons: the importance of never giving up; how crucial friendships are; that no matter one’s age, we are still able and have skills; and how to survive in extreme circumstances. These are just a few things I gleaned from this quick read. The language is simple but the story is deep. Velma Wallis does it great justice. I, for one, am grateful that she has written this tale told her over the years and shared it with us. You, like me, may find yourself thinking of these two characters and all they go through, all they accomplish and learn about themselves, at challenging moments in your own life.
